Boyaca, a department in Colombia, has secured the esteemed title of the world’s third most welcoming region. This recognition comes from booking.com’s annual Traveller Review Awards, which analyze over 309 million verified customer reviews to unveil the most hospitable destinations globally.

Boyaca’s recognition

Boyaca’s debut on the global stage stems from its genuine hospitality and outstanding service, lauded by members of the global travel community. Renowned for its picturesque towns, friendly locals, and distinctive gastronomy, Boyaca has now become a sought-after destination for travelers. Iconic locales such as Villa de Leyva, Paipa, Raquira, and Duitama have collectively elevated the region’s status as a national and international tourist hotspot.

Francisco Trujillo, General Manager of Booking.com in Colombia, notes, “As a Colombian, I am aware of the natural, cultural, architectural, and gastronomic richness that makes us a global tourist attraction. Boyaca is a region that captivates with the warmth and the hospitality of its inhabitants, positioning it as one of the most welcoming destinations globally in 2024.”

The most welcoming regions worldwide in 2024

Based on the percentage of accommodation providers receiving a Traveller Review Award in 2024, the list showcases diverse destinations globally, igniting the spirit of travel for 2024. Among the winners, Boyaca stands proudly alongside regions like Perthshire, UK, and Penghu, Taiwan. The top ten welcoming regions globally include Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy; Los Lagos, Chile; Erongo, Namibia; Otago, New Zealand; Lapland, Finland; and Asturias, Spain.

Recognition across the globe

The Traveller Review Awards 2024 extended recognition to 1.48 million travel collaborators, encompassing 1,484,294 accommodations, 449 car rental companies, and 129 taxi providers globally. Italy leads the tally for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Spain, France, Germany, and the UK. Colombia secured the 17th position, with an impressive 13,254 accolades.

To receive the prestigious award, collaborating properties needed an average review score of 8.0 (out of 10) or higher, based on a minimum of three reviews by 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2023. Car rental collaborators required an average review score of 7.5 (out of 10) or more, based on a minimum of 100 reviews by the same deadline. Taxi providers needed an average review score of 4.6 (out of 5) or higher, having completed 2,000 trips by 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2023.
