Cali is set to host the 10th International Bird Fair, Colombia Birdfair 2024, a globally renowned event that establishes Colombia’s international presence in bird-related matters, promoting and enhancing bird observation and conservation. The fair will take place from February 15 to 19 at the Cali Zoo and various satellite locations across the city.

The program boasts a lineup of engaging activities, including keynote speeches by national and international experts, talks, and discussions featuring inspiring stories from guests hailing from Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, and Spain. Additionally, a commercial exhibition will be hosted in city shopping centers and the Cali Zoo. Bird observation outings in urban and rural areas of the department, along with specialized workshops catering to beginners and enthusiasts, are also on the agenda.

A decade of Colombia Birdfair

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the fair has been instrumental in supporting community initiatives with social impact. These initiatives include backing rural bird observation tourism ventures in the Western Andes, establishing the Las Bangsias Natural Bird Reserve in the Andes-Pacific transition zone in Valle del Cauca, and contributing to the NGO Selva for the construction and maintenance of a nursery in the Caldas department. This nursery produces and distributes native trees crucial for bird conservation in the central Andes of Colombia.

Photography expeditions

For avid bird photographers, exploratory photographic outings will be organized, led by Fred Crema, one of Brazil’s premier nature guides, at Finca La Conchita (Km 18-Cali). Renowned South American bird photographer Steve Sanchez will also be present at San Felipe Birding (Km 18-Cali). Both activities are tailored for photography enthusiasts at both beginner and intermediate-advanced levels.

Concert of bird songs

A highlight of this year’s fair is an exquisite immersive concert of birdsong directed by Esteban Valdivia from Argentina, along with Dario Rocha and Pablo Jacho from Ecuador. Scheduled at the Cali Zoo on February 16, 17, and 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the concert will be experienced through wireless headphones.

A gastronomic delight

For those passionate about gastronomy, well-being, and sustainability, three compelling activities are scheduled:

“Harvest Tour and Regenerative Cooking Class” and “Regenerative Lifestyle Tour” in Yotoco municipality, led by rural and neorural communities at La Huerta Hotel on February 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., respectively.

“Regenerative Tourism, Beyond Sustainability: Life-Changer for Lives, Ecosystems, and Local Economies,” led by Colombia’s Iván Castrillón at the El Hormiguero Auditorium of the Cali Zoo on February 16, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
