Kidnapping Details

The kidnapping occurred at a gas station in Barrancas, La Guajira, when Luis Diaz’s parents Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda were abducted from their car. On the same day his mother was rescued thanks to the intelligence units of the national army and the Colombian police. Days later the ELN guerrilla group claimed responsibility for the capture of Luis Díaz’s father and after twelve days of captivity he was released on November 9.

Thousands of supporters and Colombians worldwide expressed their solidarity with Luis Díaz and his family through messages condemning such actions by armed groups in Colombia and around the world.
