The RBD concert in Medellin was a great celebration for music fans, but for the Colombian city’s economy the party was even bigger!

For some time now, Medellin, nestled in the heart of Colombia, has firmly established itself as a hub for major events and concerts in the country. The city draws both national and international audiences. Last weekend, November 3-6, Medellin was abuzz with three consecutive RBD concerts that left an unexpectedly positive mark on the region’s economy and tourism.

According to Alvaro Narvaez Diaz, the Secretary of Culture of Medellin, the four RBD performances marked a pivotal moment for the city. In fact, the scale of these events was so significant that it rivaled the impact of the Feria de las Flores, Medellin’s most prominent cultural event. Narvaez Diaz emphasized that the influx of tourists and the revenue generated by these concerts exceeded expectations.

99% occupancy in hotels

The economic impact was truly striking, as hotel occupancy soared to an impressive 99%. This indicates that the city not only welcomed a large number of domestic tourists but also a substantial contingent of international visitors from countries like Panama, Ecuador, and Peru. This phenomenon has firmly positioned Medellin as a premier destination for major events and concerts.

The audience at the RBD concerts was diverse as well as enthusiastic, with roughly 70% of attendees hailing from outside of Medellin. Bogota contributed 40% of the attendees, while 7% journeyed from overseas. The remainder comprised individuals from various other cities across Colombia. This underscores Medellin’s potential as an entertainment and cultural destination on both the national and international stage.

World-class artists

For years, Medellin has been a focal point in the music scene, drawing globally renowned artists and establishing itself as a rendezvous for music enthusiasts of various genres. Artists of the caliber of Bad Bunny, Karol G, and Madonna have graced the stages of Antioquia’s capital, further cementing its reputation as the country’s concert epicenter.

The cultural and economic reverberations of these events extend beyond music and entertainment. They propel the tourism industry and bolster Medellin’s image as a dynamic, vivacious city. With its diverse landscapes, rich culture, and warm hospitality, Medellin draws visitors back time and time again.
