In the midst of a recent public controversy involving leaked videos and a dispute with Representative Catherine Juvinao, Colombian prosecutor Angelica Monsalve finds herself at the center of a potential legal storm. Monsalve, hailing from Antioquia, faces looming legal action over alleged acts of corruption.

Gathering Evidence of Alleged Corruption

The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, where Colombian prosecutor Angélica Monsalve is employed, revealed on Wednesday that following a comprehensive investigative effort, they have accumulated substantial evidence. This evidence appears to substantiate allegations that in 2022, Angelica Maria Monsalve, serving as Deputy Prosecutor overseeing circuit judges, purportedly solicited funds through an intermediary with the intent of influencing the outcome of a case within her jurisdiction.

Imputation of Financial Wrongdoing

As a result of the extensive investigative efforts, the impending legal process takes a significant turn as a prosecutor hailing from the Specialized Directorate against Corruption is poised to initiate formal charges against the implicated official. At the center of this impending legal action is the alleged commission of the crime of “concusión,” a term that carries weighty connotations within the realm of legal jurisprudence. This intricate offense pertains to the act of soliciting bribes or extorting illicit financial gains, creating a murky and morally reprehensible boundary that the accused is now confronting.

Awaited Hearing Date for the Accused

The prosecuting entity further indicated that the request for a hearing has already been submitted to the Service Center of the Paloquemao Judicial Complex. The legal community is now eagerly awaiting the designation of the hearing’s date and time, and the presiding court.

This latest development adds another layer to the already highly publicized case that has unfolded between Colombian prosecutor Angelica Monsalve and Representative Miranda from Bogota. This legal feud was ignited by a leaked video in which the congresswoman discusses her post-term plans.

Juvinao had accused the attorney of allegedly recording her without her consent, prompting a countermove by the prosecutor, who filed a defamation complaint against the congresswoman before the Supreme Court of Justice. Eventually, some of the misunderstandings were resolved through legal means.

Furthermore, the institution announced that another deputy prosecutor has summoned Colombian prosecutor Angélica Monsalve for questioning in relation to an inquiry into alleged undue pressure on suspects.

As a culmination of these events, Colombian prosecutor Angélica Monsalve took legal action back in July. She accused Wilson Devia, the head of the UNP union, of several offenses, including abuse of public office, concusión, and embezzlement. These charges were leveled against Devia in his capacity as an intentional author. Remarkably, Devia remains at liberty, despite the prosecutor’s request for him to be placed under restrictive custody.
