The well-known Russian-German influencer Dominic Wolf will no longer wear the Colombian national team jersey in his social media activities. Wolf himself announced this on his Instagram account, where he also explained the reasons for this decision.
Conflict over image rights
The influencer explained in a video that he will no longer wear the jersey because the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) has demanded it. The reason cited by the football organization is that Wolf does not have the necessary image rights.
It’s worth noting that Dominic Wolf earns money through social media. Wolf has accepted the prohibition but expressed his disappointment and sadness about the FCF’s stance.
“I’ve always seen the national team jersey as a patriotic symbol. Now I see it as something they [FCF] want to use for advertising. It’s very difficult to address this because, again, I don’t want to get involved in legal trouble or anything like that. Whether they’re right or not, I’m not a contentious person and I try to do things right,” the influencer said.
Influencer’s disappointment
Dominic Wolf has shown deep disappointment with the Federation’s decision. “I felt like I’d been punched in the face, I was left speechless. I’ll continue supporting Colombian talent and football players, but it was disappointing to receive that notice. I’ve never said and will never say anything against the Federation,” the German concluded.
Eight Years in Colombia
Dominic Fabian Wolf is an influencer of Russian and German origin who has been living in Colombia since 2016. He arrived in the country not speaking Spanish and settled in Bucaramanga. Through his social media activity, Wolf creates videos promoting the virtues of Colombia, a country he claims to feel deeply connected to and loves as his own. Under the name @Dominiccolombia, Wolf has 1 million followers, for example, on his Instagram account.
The influencer had visa problems in 2020. This situation forced him to leave the country to avoid irregular status and penalties. Nevertheless, he continued to fight to legalize his status, which he managed to achieve a few months later, and then returned to Colombia.
Recently, he announced his engagement to a woman from Santander. Wolf said that he had put an end to 30 years as a batchelor thanks to this woman. He told his story in one of his videos. In it, he recounted a surprise trip to the San Bernardo archipelago, where he proposed to the lawyer, Paula Montagut López.
Now, Dominic Wolf is once again making headlines in major media due to this controversy over the commercial use rights of the national football team jersey. “I’ve always loved wearing the national team jersey because I felt a special connection to the country I love so much. From the first video I made speaking well of Colombia in 2019 until today, I’ve worn the national team jersey to showcase the beautiful things about this country,” said Wolf, closing the topic without delving into controversies with the Colombian Football Federation.
