Fulbright Scholarship Program for Colombian Teachers and Students of English Launched

The Fulbright scholarship program for Colombian English teachers and students has been launched. The call for applications opened earlier this month and will be open until August 31st. Interested individuals can apply for the exchange program with prestigious American universities for a period of 9 to 10 months.

The program is aimed at undergraduate teachers with an emphasis on English. Students with an emphasis on English and who have completed at least 8 semesters can also apply.

Fulbright Exchange Program

Candidates for the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Fulbright Scholarship can submit their applications until the end of this month. The program aims to exchange English speakers and native language speakers, in this case Spanish, to promote language learning.

Those who receive the scholarship will travel to various universities in the US. There, they can teach Spanish courses for 20 hours per week while participating in the academic, cultural, and social life of the university to which they are assigned.

The program was established at the end of World War II, initiated by Senator J. William Fulbright. The then-senator from Arkansas believed that such exchanges between American professionals and those from other countries would foster knowledge and respect among the participating nations. Over the years, more than 250,000 students have participated in the Fulbright programs (100,000 Americans and 150,000 foreigners).

The Fulbright Program provides funding for students, scholars, and professionals to undertake graduate studies, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools abroad.

Today, the Fulbright program is one of the most prestigious in the world. It aims to promote and boost the professional development of its participants. Currently, it includes 144 countries.

Requirements for Applying from Colombia

Applicants for the scholarships need to create an account on the Fulbright Colombia application platform. Once this step is completed, the applicant will receive a confirmation email. After the account is activated, it will be necessary to fill out the Registration Form found on the platform’s main page. Finally, with all the required documentation ready, fill out the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Fulbright Scholarship Application Form on the platform.

The requirements needed to apply for the scholarship in this program are:

• Essay 2: Teaching, methodologies, and techniques.

• Essay 3: Sharing your culture.

• Updated CV.

• Citizenship ID.

• Residency in Colombia.

• Personal profile.

• Transcript of records.

• Results of valid standardized English proficiency exams.

• Diplomas.

• Letters of recommendation.
