The alliance between the agency Despegar, Binance, and Inswitch will make it possible for travelers to choose cryptocurrencies as a payment method in Colombia. The online agency will incorporate this form of payment into all its offers on its website. Despegar managed to sign this alliance with two leading companies in this payment method. It will be the first company in the sector to offer this option in Latin America.
Paying with cryptocurrencies
Despegar will use the alliance with Binance and Inswitch to implement the payment method: Binance Pay is a payment platform that allows sending and receiving payments worldwide, while the company Inswitch will be responsible for conversion to the local currency. Inswitch is one of the most recognized firms in integrated financial technology.
Despegar explained that the idea initially arose in Argentina and Mexico. Now, Colombia will also embrace this option in payment methods. Ines Hochstadter Berger, country manager of the agency in Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia, explained that “the greatest happiness is seeing that people can find options to fulfill their dream of traveling by plane.”
Hochstadter emphasized that “we have democratized the travel industry and made it possible for millions of Latin Americans to travel thanks to financing options. We are proud to continue adding new alternatives and payment facilities.” The Despegar representative explained that the goal is to offer more people access to air travel.
